We were having our final virtual project meeting on 26 March 2021.

The objective of the 1-day virtual meeting was to provide an overview and agree on the final steps of finalizing the project by the end of April. We discussed revisions to the framework and typology, the SESSIT tool, handbook and policy and issue briefs, on dissemination and exploitation activities and to share the processes and timetable for the final reporting in May and June.

The ENRD, in close cooperation with the European Commission, is organising a virtual event - ‘Rural Vision Week: Imagining the future of Europe’s rural areas’ between 22 and 26 March 2021. The UNISECO project has  a virtual Market Place.

We received 371 registrations to our final conference, many thanks for this great interest!

Here are some highlights what you can find in this issue:

The Hungarian team of UNISECO in cooperation with the National Chamber of Agriculture held its online "Conference on the future of soil conservation farming in Hungary" on 2 March 2021.

250 practitioners and experts including farmers, advisors, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and authorities, representatives of NGOs and civic organisations, and of research and innovation have registered to the event. Many thanks to all presenters and attendees for their active contributions!

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has published its official opinionon Agroecology putting forward a comprehensive set of measures to foster agroecology in the EU.

Good Food Good Farming (GFGF) host a full day virtual conference on Wednesday, 17 February to discuss how to ensure a nature-friendly future for farming in the EU. 

We are having a 4 hour online workshop today afternoon with our Stakeholder Reference Group and Project Advisory Board with short presentations and discussions in  break-out groups on a number of interesting topics.

The UNISECO project is now in its final stages. Through to completion in April 2021 we are finalising the project synthesis and summarising the main changes in governance and implications for sustainability of the strategies for agro-ecological transitions as a means to strengthen the sustainability of European farming systems. Those strategies were co-constructed in case studies in the 15 European countries of project partners.

Read the open access research paper from the UNISECO Consortium on Assessing agro-ecological practices using a combination of three sustainability assessment tools, published in the Vol. 70(2)2020 issue with a special focus on Agroecology: Can we change our food systems? of the Journal of Sustainable and Organic Agricultural Systems.

On behalf of UNISECO Gerald Schwarz contributed to an open access position paper by Nicolas Lampkin et al. on Policies for agroecology in Europe, building on experiences in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, published in the Vol. 70(2)2020 issue with a special focus on Agroecology: Can we change our food systems? of the Journal of Sustainable and Organic Agricultural Systems.
