Council for Agricultural Research and Economics - CREA
The “Consiglio per la ricerca in agricoltura e l'analisi dell'economia agraria” (Council for Agricultural Research and Economics - CREA) is a public research institute comprised of 12 Research Centres characterized by multidisciplinary skills in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fishery. The Council employs about 700 researchers and technologists and as many as technicians. The Research Centre for Agricultural Policies and Bioeconomy - formerly National Institute of Agricultural Economics (INEA) - undertakes surveys and studies on socio-economic aspects of the agriculture, forestry, fisheries and food sectors, with special reference to agricultural and rural policies at regional, national and international level.
The Research Centre has carried out research on behalf of several organisations including the European Commission, the European Parliament, OECD, Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of the Environment as well as regional and local authorities and producer organisations. Since 1965 CREA (ex INEA) acts as the liaison organisation between the Italian State and the EU Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN).
One of the main fields of expertise of CREA Research Centre for Agricultural Policies and Bioeconomy is that of research and consultancy on the development, implementation and evaluation of rural development and agriculture-related policies. At an international level the Centre plays an official role in the Italian Rural Development Network, and participates actively to the activities of the European Network for Rural Development. At a national level, the Centre analyses and evaluates the implementation of the EU policies for agriculture, thus grouping representatives from the different Ministries, the Regions, Farmers’ Organizations, and NGOs.
