Two presentations ("Drivers and barriers of agroecological transitions in European farming systems: Lessons and experiences from multi-actor engagement in 15 case studies" presented by Gerald Schwarz and "The role of governance networks in supporting the agroecological transition: evidence from 15 European case studies" presented by Oriana Gava) gave some insight on the potential of transition pathways in 15 European case studies, discussing about drivers and barriers to the adoption of critical changes in farming systems and how coordination between AKIS and farmers, and the involvement of NGOs and consumers are key for transitioning towards agro-ecology
An additional oral presentation from UNISECO project ("Identifying possible transition pathways towards agroecology: the Socio-Ecological System of Chianti, Italy") was delivered by Francesco Galioto in another parallel session. The study aims at understanding the key barriers and drivers to food system redesign, using Chianti (Tuscany) as a case study. The presented research shades light on the conflicts and synergies associated with the use of local resources, the role of actors and the structure of the local governance system.
