HU case study: conservation tillage - the role of demo farms

The HU case study focuses on analysing conservation tillage as a first step to move away from conventional tillage systems to combat climate change, retaining soil moisture and supporting healthy soils and biodiversity.

Innovative farmers are key to promoting the transition to agroecology.

On 19 September we visited a 600 ha family farm in South-West Hungary operating with no-plough tillage system. The farm is a unique site for demonstrating onfarm practices related to conservation cropping, safe use of pesticides, multifunctional landscape (biodiversity strips, birds and earthworms monitoring), runoff mitigation and research, farming profitability analysis.
